This peer reflection session is a follow-up to the webinar Conversations in Practice – Purpose, Style and Authenticity on the 12 September 2024.
Professionals registered with Social Work England must record a minimum of 2 different pieces of CPD to meet requirements. At least one of these pieces of CPD must include a peer reflection. You will need to record what you have learnt from discussing your CPD with a peer, your manager or another professional. This discussion can be informal or formal, and can take place in one to one or group settings.
This 90-minute session, facilitated by Dame Lorna Boreland-Kelly, will give you an opportunity to engage in peer reflection to form the basis of this CPD entry.
For those registered with the Scottish Social Services Council, Social Care Wales, the Northern Ireland Social Care Council, or a different professional body, this is a valuable opportunity to reflect on the learning from the webinar with peers, and the learning you record can be tailored to reflect your own CPD or CPL requirements.

Dame Lorna Boreland-Kelly, DBE JP FRSA
Dame Lorna has over 40 years’ experience of managing, leading and developing Social Care services, which includes setting up a range of Social Care Academies in a number of Local Authorities for Children and Adult Services. She has project managed the setup of these Academies to attract, recruit, develop and retain social workers and managers. She is a specialist in workforce development including advising on improving and developing race equality standards. She delivers executive coaching, mentoring and 1-1 Wellbeing and Safeguarding supervision of Children and Adults to senior managers in a wide range of settings, including in education, social care and the private and voluntary sectors. She set up one of the first ever Social Work Academies for the London Borough of Croydon in January 2010. She received national recognition for this.
Dame Lorna is an experienced senior manager and has worked as a consultant for a number of councils since 2013 to the present time. As well as undertaking independent training and consultancy she has been involved in major transformation projects. She is a Trustee of the Association of Child Protection Professionals. She is the Chair of the Board of Trustees for Peer Power Youth who are a Leading Youth empowerment charity. She is a member of the Black Leadership Group.
Dame Lorna previously Chaired the Governing Body of Lambeth College, a large Further Education College from 1992 to 2013. She has also served as the Vice-Chair of Governors in a Catholic Secondary School. At the Judicial appointments commission (JAC) where she served for six years, Dame Lorna was one of the five lay members of the JAC. This body was set up in 2006 to appoint judges in England and Wales.
Dame Lorna has spoken and chaired national conferences and has also carried out commissioned work with the Home Office and led Reviews for Local Safeguarding Boards.
